[Sponsored Article] UW PEA Launch will Feature Industry Executive Speaker

In March, the University of Waterloo Petroleum Energy Association (UW PEA) was finally officially recognized by The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) as a Student Chapter, granting them the rare honor of being the only SPE Student Chapter in the whole of Ontario. There are currently ten SPE student chapters in Canada and over 160 SPE student chapters around the world.

SPE was founded in 1963 and serves as a forum for over 100,000 petroleum professionals around the world to exchange technical knowledge on topics related to oil and gas exploration, production, and innovation.

Joining UW PEA comes with a number of perks: members have access to exclusive educational resources, mentorship and scholarship opportunities, and the ability to participate in sponsored research paper contests. The club also organizes student activities like field trips, conferences, and networking events.

In fact, on Monday, May 27, the University of Waterloo Petroleum Energy Association will be holding the UW PEA Annual Launch Event, to which you, the reader, is invited.

For their launch, UW PEA will fly out Kerry Margetts, P.Eng, to come speak at the University. A Shell executive who graduated from Queen’s University with a B.Sc in Chemical Engineering, he started his career with Syncrude Canada in Fort McMurray and joined Shell in 1987 as a process engineer based in Calgary. His current role as General Manager, Contracting and Procurement, Heavy Oil, combined with his vast experience, surely will provide him with much insight and wisdom to impart upon those of you in attendance. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in a career in Canada’s booming petroleum energy industry.

The event is in E5-2004, Doors open at 4PM, and the event will begin at 4:30PM. Presentations will begin at 4:50. After the presentations you will have a chance to register with UW PEA and ask questions. Food and beverages will be provided. Make sure to take advantage of this great opportunity!
