Visual Art and Design Pilot Program

Note: This article is hosted here for archival purposes only. It does not necessarily represent the values of the Iron Warrior or Waterloo Engineering Society in the present day.

Visual Art and Design for Engineers is a series of free studio art seminars being offered, with support from the Dean, to any interested students in the Faculty of Engineering. The goal of these seminars is to provide an opportunity for students interested in engineering design to learn and practice fundamental artistic skills and concepts.

Each session will include studio art activities, primarily drawing based, aimed at developing both skill and theoretical background in fine arts. The materials necessary will be provided at the sessions and students will be welcome to keep anything they produce.

This program first ran as a six week pilot in the fall term with remarkable enthusiasm and positive feedback from the student body. Due to its popularity, it is being brought back again this term.

The first session is scheduled for Monday, October 15th from 4:30 to 6:30 in DWE 3517 and will cover the use of lines in art and introduce some practical drawing exercises. Future sessions will be held at the same time every week thereafter. These sessions are free and voluntary.

To secure a spot at a session or for more information please email the session coordinator at raconsel@uwaterloo.ca
