Hello 2018’s! We’re Catherine and Annamaria, and we’re your VPs Internal of the Engineering Society for the fall and winter terms, respectively. As VPs Internal, we are in charge of organizing the many events, workshops and services EngSoc puts on throughout the term. There’s something to do every week!

One of the things we learned in first year was how to balance school and studying with hanging out and getting involved. While studying is good, it’s necessary to get out every so often and let out some steam. The social events EngSoc hosts are a great way to do this. There’s an Engineering talent show (TalEng), Engineering play (EngPlay), trivia contest (Genius Bowl), beginning, middle, and end of term parties (BOT, MOT, EOT), and a Semi Formal dance, among many other social events. On top of that, we also run events that promote mental and physical health such as running sessions, therapy puppy sessions during exams, and intramural sports. Check out the EngSoc calendar at engsoc.uwaterloo.ca to see the schedule of events for this term and check if anything grabs your attention!

Additionally, EngSoc runs a variety of academic workshops to help you succeed as a student. Resume critiques is a must for first year students who have a co-op in the winter; it is run at least twice a term. There are also workshops such as Interview Skills, Getting a Job Outside of Jobmine, and Housing 101. Did you know the EngSoc website also has resources to help you out? There’s a scholarship bank with over $1 million in scholarships, and an exam bank with past exams to help you study.

If you’re looking to get involved in helping with EngSoc events or have any new ideas, let us know! You could email vpinternal.b@engsoc.uwaterloo.ca, or check out the EngSoc website and look for directorship applications. Directors are in charge of running a specific event. A directorship can be as little or as much work as you want it to be — it’s up to you.
We hope your first term as engineering students is very exciting, and hope to see you at some events soon! If you ever see us around, feel free to stop us and say hi.
