So there is always a lot of guff that goes towards a lot of superheroes that are deemed useless, weak, and have their existence questioned because they seem so ridiculous. The most famous of these heroes is Arthur Curry, who is also known as Aquaman, King of the Sea.

Some common misconceptions of Aquaman are that he can only talk to fish, he’s useless outside of the water, and he’s one of the weakest and dumbest superheroes ever created. But what you think about this guy is false; Aquaman is badass, and a certified member of the Justice League.

Have you ever thought of how much of the Earth is covered by water? Well if you’re wondering it’s approximately 70%, most of which is part of the four large oceans. These waters house cities like Atlantis, which are like cities on the surface world only with more advanced technology. So just like any other city there comes crime and super villains, like the Black Manta and Ocean Master, who cause havoc across this vast majority of space. There is only one hero that watches over this vast area and that’s Aquaman. Has anyone ever wondered why there is never any trouble coming out of the water? Well it’s not because there is no danger, it’s because Aquaman stops the threat before it gets too big. There are thousands of superheroes on the surface world constantly destroying cities and endangering civilians to catch the villains, and sometimes they’re never able to handle the more powerful and evil villains. When this happens, they usually call in Aquaman to assist in the pursuit. Also, Aquaman doesn’t just hang out in water all the time. Aquaman has travelled through space and time, fighting off demons and monsters from other planets. Aquaman does three times the work that thousands of heroes can’t do, and he does it better.

Anyone who thinks Aquaman is one of the weaker heroes out there is wrong; the truth is he is actually one of the most powerful. He doesn’t simply talk to fish, but actually has telepathic abilities. Aquaman is able to telepathically nudge an aquatic animal, or any other conscious being, to perform a task. He once gave a seizure to an enemy just by concentrating. Now, he may not be the quickest on land, but he can move up to 1,150 mph swimming and he can move 60 feet in the air from water. He is also impervious to bullets and most projectiles. He has super strength that has been known to rival better-known heroes like Wonder Woman. He has improved senses and has natural night-vision, plus he has been known to have precognitive flashes depicting the future. On top of all those powers, he has been trained in deadly martial arts, weapons, and fighting deadly animals, and he started his training when he was eight. Aquaman has also been known to kill villains that are truly evil. If we had more heroes like Aquaman, maybe villains like Joker and Lex Luthor wouldn’t be killing everyone all the time.

Aquaman as a character is also one of the most in-depth and interesting to date. Aquaman’s stories, unlike most heroes, don’t always end with a happy conclusion. When Aquaman’s son got kidnapped, Aquaman failed to save him in time and watched his son be suffocated to death by Black Manta, which led him and his wife to divorce. A couple of months after his son’s death, one of his enemies, Charybdis, took away his power of telepathy temporarily and shoved his hand in a tank of piranhas that tore off his hand. When Aquaman fought and defeated Charybdis, with one hand, Aquaman shoved Charybdis’ head into the Piranha tank. Aquaman then replaced his hand with a harpoon hook, and after some time with enchanted water, which basically acts like the Green Lantern’s ring only with water instead of green light. Aquaman also rules the sea, with an army bigger than China’s. He could very easily take over the Earth but instead he uses this army to assist the people of Earth when they need it most. If you ever think of the Justice League, you think of Superman and Batman. Aquaman originally founded the group with them, so the world’s greatest superhero team wouldn’t exist without this guy.

Aquaman has also tangled with some of the fiercest villains known to man. He has fought gods, demons, aliens and he even punched Death in the face when Death told Aquaman it was his time. He’s been claimed so powerful that gods like Poseidon have bowed to him and gave him magical weaponry. So next time you want to make fun of Arthur “Aquaman” Curry, think again, because there’s no hero that even begins to be on this man’s level. What other superhero has been known to throw bears at his enemies?
