Hello again everyone! My name is Rebecca Cameron and I was elected at the first EngSoc meeting of this term as the EngSoc Spring 2011 CRO (Chief Returning Officer). As CRO, it is my duty to run the EngSoc elections this term, and to make sure that they are well-advertised and fair. This term, we are trying something new – instead of running one election we are having two elections. The first election was for President and the second election will be for the VP Positions and WEEF Director.

The presidential election finished two weeks ago and the new Engineering Society ‘A’ President is Leah Allen. Voter turnout was a record-breaking 35% – this is the best turnout we have ever had in an EngSoc election! The vote breakdown is: Leah 46.5%, Sean 30.9%, Eric 18.2%, Declined 4.4%. Thanks to all three of the candidates – you were very professional and a pleasure to work with.

The second election for the VP Positions and WEEF Director started as soon as we knew the results of the first eleEditorction. Nominations for VP Positions/WEEF Director closed on June 17th and we are in the midst of the campaigning period right now! Please read the election insert in this issue of The Iron Warrior to learn more about the candidates running for VP-Education, VP-External, VP-Internal, VP-Finance, and WEEF Director. Also, the all-candidates forum is TOMORROW (June 23rd) in the CPH foyer at 11:30. All of the candidates will be there to answer your questions. If you have a question for the all-candidates forum, please send it to me at cro@engmail.uwaterloo.ca. Once campaigning ends on Friday, June 24th we will then begin voting. Voting will occur Saturday, June 25th to Tuesday, June 28th. You will receive an email with a voting link that will let you vote and direct you to a webpage where you can get more information about each of the candidates’ platforms. We will have a voting station in the CPH foyer on the Monday and Tuesday of the voting period as well, so please be sure to vote! Like last election there will be donuts at the polling station! The results of the election will be announced at the next EngSoc meeting, on the EngSoc website, and in the next issue of The Iron Warrior.

If you have any questions or concerns about the elections this term please email me at cro@engmail.uwaterloo.ca. Thanks for reading, and happy voting!
