VP Finance:

Hello engineers! The term is winding down, and with that here is my last Iron Warrior article for winter 2014. I hope that you have enjoyed the information found in my articles this term, and have learned something more about EngSoc and its finances. This issue, I want to go over some things that I would like to improve during my next 16 months as VP-Finance. If you followed the election, you would have seen that the majority of my platform was centered on three main things: organization, efficiency, and information.

In terms of organization, I am hoping to standardize the way that our finances are organized, making it easier to transition from term to term. To do this, I am planning to implement a finance schedule, to make it better known when things happen throughout the term. I also hope to create a more professional document branding, and write termly transition documents that will be publically available and summarize everything that happened in the term.

I am planning to reassess our budgeting process to see if we can make it more efficient. In doing this, I hope to make more use of past trends in spending to make our budgets more consistent from term to term, and ensuring that money is spent more on the things of value, such as services. I also plan to work on the Engineering Capital Improvements Fund process to seek more student input into the purchases each term. Additionally, I will be seeking feedback from student teams and clubs on the sponsorship process to see if there are things that can be improved.

I plan to work on making sure that people have better knowledge of where their money is being spent each term. This will include a more robust section of the EngSoc website dedicated to finances, as well as more general information in The Iron Warrior. I also plan to get feedback from students on what they would like to know about EngSoc’s finances, and implement some plans to better get the information out there.

That’s about all for this issue. Thank you to everyone who has read my articles over the past 16 months. I am looking forward to another 16 months as your VP-Finance, and hope that you are as well! As always, don’t hesitate to ask me if you have any questions. Best of luck with final exams this term, and see everyone in the fall.
