Hello aspiring Engineers! This is my first IW entry as your next VP Finance so I will use this submission to introduce myself. I have a love/hate relationship with physics, broke someone’s collarbone, and learned about organization restructuring in MSCI 311. Surprisingly, these random facts have and will influence my time in Waterloo and the Engineering Society.
In my (second) final year of high school I lost an argument with my parents and had to take physics. Thinking before of applying only to business programs, I was now magically qualified to apply to engineering. Now, I am just about to finish my 3A term in Management Engineering, and despite struggling through physics I couldn’t have made a better choice.
Growing up in Toronto, I lived hockey. I don’t know if it is believable or not but I was the tough one on the ice. Being on the ice every day of the week meant I was always busy. Coming to university, I was suddenly left with a lot more time to do school work – naturally it didn’t get done. After the stress of first year subsided I knew I had to do something to keep up the busy lifestyle I was use to. This is when I started to get involved in the Engineering Society and my marks have improved drastically.
As you may have heard, there will be some structural changes within the Engineering Society that will expand my portfolio. Rest assured, I am ready for this challenge and looking forward to it. I will be working very closely with Andrew Fisher during the trial period to gain his input on the directorship that would previously be managed by the VP Internal.
Lastly, I encourage everyone to consider applying for a directorship or commissioner position. If you have any questions about the positions visit engsoc.uwaterloo.ca or stop by the Orifice where there is bound to be someone who can talk to you about each position.
Good luck on exams and have a great summer!
