If you’re anything like me, then you love gadgets. You contemplate picking up the phone and call whenever you see an infomercial; you want that mighty putty, or really any other product that the late Billy Maze used to sell. However, you can’t just like any random gadget; I like to know how they compare to each other. Well, the results are in: Popular Science has released its hottest gadget list of November 2010.

Starting off at number ten is the Thermaltake Level 10, a PC. In order to keep all of the individual parts relatively cool, the makers of this PC have designed a unique chamber for each component to fit in, increasing surface area, and effectively keeping the parts cooler.

Number nine are the TAG Heuer Squadra Night Vision Glasses, which can improve your night vision regardless of your eyesight. These work by having a yellow anti-reflective coating on the lens, allowing images to appear sharper in the dark.

Number eight is the SteriPEN Sidewinder, the ultimate water purifier. It does not use electricity or batteries to purify the water, but instead has a crank that can be turned. When rotated at 120rpm, this gives power to the UV light inside the filter that turns on and kills bacteria in the water.

Number seven is the Sony Alpha SLT- a55VL, which has a handy function that allows it to maintain its autofocus while the camera is moving. By replacing the traditional mirror with translucent glass, light is able to pass through the image sensor to the autofocus sensor. This allows the camera to focus on the next image while the first image taken is still being processed.

Number six is the Smoking Gun. No, this does not point out who committed the crime, but rather is a handy tool for smoking your food. This smoker functions without applying heat to your food, but rather, burns a small pile of wood chips in a miniature furnace at the back of the gun, then pushes the smoke out through a small tube at the front that can be inserted into any bowl or covering. This slowly gives a smoky flavour to your food.

Number five should not be under estimated. The Sharpie Liquid Pencil seems to be the saviour writing utensil. This pencil writes like a pen by using liquid graphite, but the markings can still be erased like a pencil. This can be erased for up to one day after it has been written on the paper.

Number four is the Reach Total Care + Whitening Toothbrush. This toothbrush does it all, saving you time and expense. By having the bristles coated with microscopic pieces of calcium carbonate, the toothbrush is able to brush the stains off your teeth.

Number three is the Humanscale Diffrient World Chair, weighing 25 pounds. It is outfitted with plastic rails rather than the standard tension spring that is usually found in a chair. This allows it to automatically bounce back in a comfortable manner when you relieve the pressure.

At number two, we have something for campers to enjoy. The Easton Kilo Tent is the lightest two person sleeper that has been produced, weighing less than two pounds. It accomplishes this by replacing the usual wound-aluminum cords that hold the frame together with carbon wrapped tethers.

Finally, at number one on the list is the Canon PowerShot SX30 IS. This camera has an automatic zoom button or “zoom assist” button that allows you to switch from one magnification to another quickly. Once the magnification has been adjusted, the camera will adjust the lens so that it can find the focal point that you had previously acquired at that magnification.
