Exceptionally Epic External Endeavours

Hey Everybody,
Hope everyone has settled into their classes, and is gearing up for midterms. Not too too much to report on the VP External front, but there have been some recent developments.
First of all, Kevin Ling (EngSoc B VP External) and I travelled to Montreal two weekends ago for the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students President’s Meeting (CFES PM). There were a lot of great discussions which will be summarized in my conference report (located on the EngSoc website) that will hopefully be up by the time this issue comes out. The main development is regarding students studying in non-accredited engineering programs at schools who are already members of CFES. This has caused problems in the past, one of them being that those students were not allowed to compete in the Canadian Engineering Competition. Now those students are also considered members of CFES and so they can participate in CFES! WHOO!
Professional Engineering of Ontario-Student Conference delegates have been chosen. They will be travelling to the University of Toronto on November 12th to partake in workshop sessions, listen to guest speakers and engage in networking opportunities.
One charity event that is approaching quite fast is Halloween for Hunger. The purpose of this event is to dress up and collect canned goods for the Waterloo Food Bank on Halloween night (5 pm). If you are interested please sign up either your group (6-8 people), or yourself (free agent) on the orifice door. This event will be ending early in the night, giving you a chance to partake in other activities later on.
Attention all students starting their fourth year design projects! There will be a very beneficial hands-on interactive tutorial session demonstrating how to use National Instrument’s LabVIEW prototype development. It will be held on Monday, October 18th at 5:30 pm in the Wedge lab and you will receive a free copy of the LabView software. Discover firsthand how LabVIEW can help simplify your design projects for virtually all of your technical computing needs including electronics design, controls and mechatronics, and measurement and analysis. This session is first come, first serve, so please be there on time.
Applications to attend CFES Congress which will be held in St. John’s, Newfoundland will be coming out shortly. EngSoc ‘A’ will be taking 2-3 delegates for this conference, although there will be a cost to attend (yet to be determined). If you are interested in attending, please expect a call for applications over the mailing list in the next couple weeks.
That’s all for now, if you have any questions please contact me.
