VP Student Life

LAST ONE GUYS!

So the current executive are on our way out of here, and I couldn’t be more excited! It’s been a really fun time running all the events for you guys this term, but I’m super excited to see what the new VP Student Life Ashley Clarke does! Before are officially gone for good though, let’s recap:

Firstly, the mural is almost finished and it has been a great success. Kelsey Tower-Jones, the artist, has been hard at work on it and she’s making great progress. Hopefully it will be put up by the end of the term! The mural is of the EngSoc official animals, the Dik-Dik and the Diksisel. They are two adorably tiny animals, specifically a deer and a bird, to represent our fun-loving society and the students within it. The concept was created by Anson Chen, the former VP Education and 2017 graduate of Civil Engineering. There were many great submissions handed in during the Winter 2017 term, so many of which were valid contenders. However, the members voted on the mural choice during JAGM 2017 and decided officially on the current design. I think it looks great, and will really brighten up the office. Make sure to come by the Orifice and check it out!

Next, all of the events this term went great! We had lots of fun at all of them and really got in the engineering spirit. We started patch-sewing parties this term to get people hyped up about coveralls, and teach people how to sew! We also had hard hat decorating to keep the tradition going and make our hard hats more unique. Lastly, we tried to appreciate our upper years more by hosting an Upper Year Appreciation event, so that they know we love them as much as the first years.

On that note, we have officially integrated the 2022s to our community and WE LOVE THEM! We’re excited that soon they will be the future of engineering and can’t wait to see what they will bring to the community. We ran a successful First Year Conference as well as a First Year Mentoring program to help them out, and we even had council buddies and workshops so that they know how to write hilarious motions. WHOOP THERE IT IS! WEC ran smoothly as well, with a high percentage of first year participation, get your engineering on!

Now, it’s been a pleasure running all these fun events for you guys and being your VP Student Life. Both Chelsea and I had a great time representing you, and the memories we have made can never be replaced. I’d like to give a special shout-out to all our commissioners and directors for their hard work and dedication, we couldn’t have done it without you! On top of that, I’d just like to say to my fellow executive that I love you all and you have made this experience better than it ever could have been otherwise. I hope that the new executive have as wonderful of a time as we did, so have fun and good luck!

Happy Holidays everyone!
