An Australian toddler who suffered internal decapitation after a head-on collision in a car has had his head reattached to his spine. The boy, Jaxon Taylor, had his upper vertebrae separated from his skull by the force of the impact; the fact that he survived at all is considered remarkable. In a six-hour operation performed by Dr. Geoff Askin, who is known as the “godfather of spinal surgery” in Australia, a bone graft was taken from one of Jaxon’s ribs and used to reconnect the vertebrae to his head. Happily, Jaxon is now learning to walk again, and is expected to make a full recovery.
