Effective September 15th, UW Retail Services is raising the surcharge on WatCard transactions at Feds-operated services from 5 to 8 percent. This will have implications for you whenever you use your WatCard as a payment method.
According to Feds, they have historically paid the entire surcharge on your behalf, and they will continue paying five percent when you make a purchase in the future. However, with the surcharge going up, there will now be a 3% surcharge for using your Watcard at any Feds-operated service, including International News, Bomber, or Feds Used Books. At Turnkey Desk, Feds has declared themselves unable to afford paying five percent for bus tickets, so the full 8% surcharge will be passed on to you when you buy a ticket with Watcard.
Retail Services has yet to comment or provide their reasonings for this change. For now, it would be wise to use alternative methods (cash, debit, credit) to pay instead of Watcard.
