VP Finance: Budget, Coverall Day, and More!

Note: This article is hosted here for archival purposes only. It does not necessarily represent the values of the Iron Warrior or Waterloo Engineering Society in the present day.

Hello A-Soc! Welcome back to everyone who was on co-op, and welcome to all the first and fourth years who have joined us! Here’s a few updates on finance related things:

Budget: We have an EngSoc Budget for the term! A big thank you to all of the directors who budgeted efficiently and submitted their budgets on time. If you are interested in knowing where your $14.72 EngSoc fee is going to be spent over the term, take a look at the budget allocations (which are included on this page). Each line represents a specific cost/event/service/directorship, and how much money they have been allocated for the term. The largest chunk of the budget (fixed costs) goes towards operating the Engineering Society Office (CPH 1327), so make sure that we can offer everything that you need! If you have any budget related questions, I encourage you to send me an email at vpfinance.a@engsoc.uwaterloo.ca, or speak to me in the EngSoc Office!

Novelties: It is open for the term! There’s a lot of cool new items that we have not had before, including a sweet EngSoc logo t-shirt for $20. Stop by between 11:30 and 1:30 to take a browse through what is available. Novelties is the one place on campus where you can find a ton of great Waterloo Engineering swag, such as clothing, glassware, mugs, patches, and buttons! If you have any suggestions for items that you would like to see in Novelties, let me know! Waterloo Engineering Onesie day is going to happen this term, so keep an eye out for details on that!

Coverall Day: Coverall day is back, and this time it is twice as awesome! Coveralls will be on sale in CPH foyer Thursday and Friday (that’s January 23 and 24) from 11:30-1:30 for the awesome price of $80, which includes coveralls and two patches. If you would just like coveralls and no patches they will be $70. For an extra $5 you can get two lines of text embroidered on the shoulder. Also, if you need help sewing on patches, there will be a Patch Sewing Day taking place at the same time in POETS!

Engineering Capital Improvements Fund (ECIF): ECIF is an awesome way get EngSoc to improve your student space around Engineering. In the past, purchases such as POETS Patio furniture, improvements to the CPH foyer, and LCD screens for advertising have been made. If you have an idea for a purchase that could be made to go towards Engineering student space, let me know or fill out the form on the website (http://engsoc.uwaterloo.ca/ecif).

Sponsorship: Once again, EngSoc will be sponsoring student teams and clubs this term. The way that this works is that student teams and clubs can apply to be sponsored by EngSoc and give a short presentation about the group to the Sponsorship Committee (which consists of six student members and myself). The committee then allocates money to the groups from the budget. This can be used to help pay for parts for a student team, competition fees and various other things. If you are a member of a student team or club who would be interested in sponsorship, keep an eye out for the call for submissions which will be within the next few weeks.

That’s all for this week! As always, if you have any questions related to EngSoc and finances, send me an email to vpfinance.a@engsoc.uwaterloo.ca, or drop by the EngSoc Office!
