VP Education: Looking for Interview Guidance?

Note: This article is hosted here for archival purposes only. It does not necessarily represent the values of the Iron Warrior or Waterloo Engineering Society in the present day.

Welcome back everyone, and a very warm welcome to the first years and fourth years joining us for their first time! I hope that with classes now well under way you are feeling settled in and happy to be back in Waterloo for another great Winter term.

I know we’re only just back to the books, but it is that time of the term already…job application time! Hopefully you’ve found some interesting jobs to apply to on JobMine during the first round of postings that closed yesterday. The second round of postings is active this Friday, January 24 at 7:00 am and will be open until Monday, January 27 at 11:59 pm. Make sure your resumes are well polished. Best of luck with your interviews!

On the subject of interviews, this Tuesday, January 28 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm the Engineering Society will be hosting an Interview Skills Workshop! This workshop will be geared towards helping engineering students prepare for their interviews. Students will be paired with an upper year student for a mock interview. The upper year will critique and provide suggestions on how to improve your interview performance. Volunteers are needed! If you are interested in volunteering, please stop by the EngSoc office to see me or send me an email at vpeducation.a@engsoc.uwaterloo.ca. Location is TBA.

This term our EngSoc Academic Rep Director, Josh Kalpin, and I will host a total of three meetings with class Academic Reps. The objective of these meetings will be to review the role of Academic Reps within each department, gauge relationships between Reps and their department, investigate methods for improvement, provide advice on how to mediate effectively between the Class and Professors and to assist in developing relationships between Academic Reps. Naturally, Academic Reps from upper years know the ins and outs of their departments best. We hope that they will have an abundance of pertinent information to share with the younger years once we put them in touch.

Once again, welcome back! I wish everyone the best of success this term. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Happy studying!
