This is going to be a bittersweet article for me to write. It’s the last issue of the term, I’m done my 16 months as Exec, and it’s my last term on A-Soc. Last week brought yearbook submissions, graduation photos, and PnP presentations. To be clear, I’m hella nostalgic.
Luckily I’ve been too busy to get too nostalgic. I got to join the team of Waterloo delegates at the National Conference on Women in Engineering in Montreal, Quebec the weekend of November 16th. It was inspiring to meet so many bad-asses in engineering, who just happen to be women. Even though I’m on the way out (73 days til IRS!) it’s good to see the future of engineering education, advocacy and promotion in Canada are in such capable hands. We’ll be putting our notes together, so look out for blog posts from our VP External, Lisa Belbeck.
Reflecting on my time as VP O makes me very proud of what our Exec team has been able to accomplish in the last 16 months. We tested and tweaked a trial run for the new executive structure. We managed a complete overhaul of our governing documents. Puppies were a huge hit (and look for them after lectures end!).
So how did the VP Operations experiment work out? Having student life and student services portfolios under one position would have been impossible without the amazing team of commissioners. I loved working with Madelaine Liddy (Student Services) and Kyle Pohl (Student Life). They did an excellent job at providing guidance and support to their directors, as well as developing their own projects. Some notable changes were the evolution of Kyle’s cardboard boat-racing, and Mads’ Wellness Workshops. I want to give a huge thank you Kyle and Mads, and all the directors for their dedication and hard work these past eight months. You’ve been brilliant and I hope you know what a great job you all did.
We have a new exec team coming in. I’m excited to welcome Annamaria and Brendon along with the entire incoming Executive team. Anna and Brendon are going to do a great job sharing the job of VP Internal.
