Hey Engineers!
I have a couple things to update you on this week. The first is the WEEF Board of Directors meeting last week. This meeting went well, and WEEF is on track as the economy is slowly recovering. WEEF will continue to give out $60,000 a term to student teams and to requests for upgrading department equipment that students use. Once the economy recovers, it is expected that this number will increase. One thing that was discussed at the meeting was that students often do not know that they can submit proposals to upgrade department equipment. YES, you can do this! So, if that lab equipment or computer is not working anymore, consider submitting a WEEF proposal next term. Lastly, I would like to say “Thank you” to Brock Kopp for his hard work as WEEF director these past 16 months. He did an extraordinary job ensuring that the funds were allocated properly and that WEEF continued to grow.
I also attended the Sanford Fleming Foundation (SFF) board meeting and annual general meeting last week. Both of these meetings went well, especially from a student’s perspective. In my opinion, the foundation does a great job of supporting and recognizing our outstanding engineering students. I was unable to attend the awards dinner after the board meeting, but I heard it was a great event.
Pictures with Santa Claus and The Tool will be happening again this year! We are currently working out a date but it should be happening at the end of this week, so keep your eyes out for posters and a facebook group!
Finally, I have started transitioning the new President-Elect, David Birnbaum, into the President position. He is up to speed on most things now, so I am sure you will start hearing from him very soon.
This is my last report EVER as an executive for the Engineering Society. It has been a long 32 months, but every second has been rewarding. I just want to thank the current executive team for being an AMAZING team to work with. You guys were always enthusiastic about giving back to the students, and that shows true leadership. I will miss working with you guys.
That being said, I have so much confidence in the new executive team. I truly believe that they will keep the Society moving forward and keep giving back to the students! Best of luck with the next 16 months, guys!
Thanks for the amazing time everyone!
Leah
