A Tribute to Rambly Roy’s Food Talks

Hello,

I was recently told that I had to write in homage to one of the previous great Editor in Chiefs of the Iron Worrier; namely, the great Roy Lee. I was told to make it 666 words long. Now, 666 is best known as the number of the beast according to the bible. The number appears in Revelations, Chapter 13 “Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six”. Most scholars actually believe that the number 666 is actually the numerical addition of the letters in the name Nero, or Neron in Hebrew, Caesar. Nero was the Emperor in charge of the Roman Empire at the time John was writing Revelation and he is most commonly known for playing the harp while watching Rome burn to the ground so that he could expand his palace. In Greek and Hebrew, they didn’t have symbols for numbers, and instead wrote using letters. Each letter had a numerical value. Now the letters in the Hebrew name for Nero Caesar add up to the number 666. It also worth noting that some earlier manuscripts put the number at 616 because that’s what Nero (not Neron) Caesar added up to in Hebrew. Now less commonly known is the fact that 666 is the number that you get if you add up all the numbers in the Monty Carlo Roulette, namely 36! and so 666 actually turns out to be a triangle number. But how can I not talk about Roy Lee, without first talking about food. Throughout his many editorials, food often played a role; whether it was his intolerance to ice cream or slow cookers, you could always count on his editorials to leave you hungry for more. His editorials reminded me of watching the food network, because those shows always left me starving and it would almost be like torture. One of my favourite shows on the Food Network was Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives because you would see some of the coolest and weirdest dishes and meals that I have ever seen. I’ve always wanted to be on that show. However after thinking for a little bit, I realized how much weight the guy probably puts on and how much effort it would be to try and get rid of all of it. Sigh. Oh well. What make me always laugh is the always give the recipe and show how the dish is being made but I can pretty much guaranty that no one every tries to make those dishes because the instructions are given way too quickly and who wants to get up when you’re sitting on the couch comfortably watching TV. This actually brings me to my next point, Finals.

I’m sure that all of you are busy studying and not procrastinating, even though all of the best games of the year all seem be coming out right now. To name a few, Lego Lord of the Rings, Assassins Creed III, PlayStation All-Stars, and the Wii U. I am going to stop there before I make you all give up studying and start gaming. Now it is important to remember that while you should be studying and maybe stressing out a little bit, it’s important to keep safety in mind. The number of students that have walked across the street without looking both ways and paying attention to their safety because they are too busy concentrating on studying and discussing class material with friends is disconcerting. While it is important for everyone to study hard, we, as engineers must remember that safety is of upmost importance and that we should always be thinking about it.

Cheers

Uncle Rufus
