WatPD Eng Forum, CSC, and More!

Note: This article is hosted here for archival purposes only. It does not necessarily represent the values of the Iron Warrior or Waterloo Engineering Society in the present day.

Hello again everyone! Things have been busy in VP-Ed world since the last issue of the IW, so I’ll let you know what’s new. I’ve attended quite a few meetings, and communicated with a lot of people. I am also working on a student submission to Plan 2015, so be sure to read my other article for information about that!
On Oct. 7th WatPD Engineering hosted a Student Forum to inform students about the new program and to answer their questions. Students asked really good questions, and Dr. Gord Stubley (Academic Director, WatPD Engineering) and Judene Pretti (Director, WatPD) had some really insightful answers. I encourage you to visit the program’s new website to learn more! You will also find a recording of the forum including both the presentation and the question period. Go to: www.watpd-engineering.uwaterloo.ca
I attended the Co-op Student’s Council (CSC) meeting on Oct. 6th and had the opportunity to discuss Co-op issues with Peggy Jarvie (Executive Director, CECS) and Rocco Fondacaro (Director, Student and Faculty Relations). This Council is chaired by the VP Education of FEDS, and has its membership composed of Student Reps from all faculties. We were given an update on Waterloo Works (the upcoming replacement to Jobmine), which is set to launch in Spring 2011. Some features to note are: pdf resumes, better searching and screening capabilities, more uptime (available after midnight, yay!), easier management of documents (resumes and cover letters), and even a better matching algorithm to increase matches in first round. I also found out that the real reason Jobmine closes at midnight is due to technological limitations of the software itself. It looks like we can look forward to lots of new stuff with Waterloo Works!
Other news include Academic Rep Meeting #2, which will happen on Oct. 20th, details will make their way to Academic Reps soon. Resume critiques were a huge success in September, there will be another session run at the end of the month or at the beginning of November. I have a SUC Meeting on Oct. 12th and CEC Meeting on Oct. 14th, at the time of press neither meeting has occurred yet. I’ll update on SUC at the council meeting on the 13th. Thanks for reading my exec report, please remember to read my other article to learn about Plan 2015 and how to give feedback on it!
