IW New Website Revealed

Note: This article is hosted here for archival purposes only. It does not necessarily represent the values of the Iron Warrior or Waterloo Engineering Society in the present day.

Similar to the campus the Iron Warrior has undergone some heavy construction as of late. The week of January 19 a new website for the Iron Warrior is going to be published along with a host of new features.
The first major feature is the new Commenting ability. At the bottom of each post there will be a form which anybody can leave a comment. This is going to open a whole new opportunity for discussion on the articles which will be open and ongoing. These comments will be moderated by the Iron Warrior staff so please keep them respectful or they will not be approved.
The second major feature will be a more advanced search function. Instead of searching through Google the search field on the new website will search only this website and display comprehensive results for searches by title, author, program, or any text in an article.
An important issue will be involving the archives of IW’s previous issues. These will still be available either through the PDF archives on the current site though they will not show up in the new site. There will be a link in the header and footer of the new site to access these.
This site has never been tested on a full scale so for the first few months it will be operating in a beta version. If you encounter any bugs or have any suggestions on how to improve it please feel free to email Iron Warrior atΒ iwarrior@engmail.uwaterloo.ca.

    It looks super!

The website definitely does look great!

A suggestion though: One of the things I like best about the print version of IW is the font. Could you change the font of the website version to the same one? Or at least to a Serif font? It’s easier on the eyes that way. Thanks!

  4. It looks good aesthetically, but unfortunately you broke all the old permanent links, and some articles aren’t there at all. This is hugely problematic for people arriving via outside links.

Permalinks are actually fixed now πŸ™‚ and the font can be changed when reading a post to which one suits you.
