So, I’m at Whole Foods (ya that’s when you know, typical white gurl yoga ahimsa ~go0d~vib3z~ privileged trash etc.) and I’m checking out my self-serve bowl of peas and organic GMO-free nachos and noodles and green beans, and the check-out lady notices my acne.
This never offends me – I’m on my way to work and I’ve developed a sort of routine wherein I get ready at the last possible second by doing my makeup in the five minutes it takes my computer to start up. This means I am wearing the rouge mountain range living on my face without shame.
Anyhoo, anytime someone indicates they are about to give me advice on how to relieve me of this curse I can’t help but be all ears.
She proceeds to tell me her son had the same problem as me as a young adult and this face mask used twice a day – twenty minutes morning and night – solved all his problems. Of course I am skeptical, because I have worked retail before but I don’t see what kind of commission a Whole Foods employee would get upon advertising ingredients to me – maybe they are just encouraged to share their knowledge, which they were probably hired for, and she actually wants to help me haha.
Alas, here is the birth of my new skincare experiment easily sold to me through my quiet desperation to eradicate insecurity. (I’m really not that insecure about it; more on that in another blog post.)
An Exposé on Turmeric root:

Aloe Vera plant:
-used medicinally for centuries
-plant require low maintenance, presents ~good vibez~
-traditionally used to treat sunburns
-edible gel
Cucumber:
-fr3sh
-plenty antioxidents
-super soothing
Ingredients:
-
1 thick aloe vera leaf
-
1-2 inches organic turmeric root
-
3-4 inches cucumber OR 2-3 tbsp cucumber juice if you are someone who likes to put effort into things
-
Around 3 tbsp vocado or plain yogurt to bind
Tips:
Store in an empty container in the fridge. I would use the mix within a week or make fresh whenever desired use.
Have a juicer? Juice the above main ingredients and bind with blended avocado or some yogurt for a mask that’s not so chunky or use a food processor as I found it can be a bit harder to blend. Adding a little bit of water can help.
Make sure you test mask on your wrist for allergies.
Turmeric may leave a yellow tint to your face/fingers, don’t put too much, rinse off thoroughly… or use the yellow face tint as a sort of colour corrector??
Here’s to smoothy smooth skin!
