UW Police Services Statement Regarding On Campus Events

Note: This article is hosted here for archival purposes only. It does not necessarily represent the values of the Iron Warrior or Waterloo Engineering Society in the present day.

UW Police are continuing their efforts to identify the source of the offensive posters that have been distributed on campus over the past month. The safety of our campus community is our number one priority.

It has been a month since the posters were first found on campus. Since that time we have seen additional posters and Facebook postings. While many of the posters have targeted women; Islam, Ghandi and Darwin have also been the focus.

We have been working closely with Waterloo Regional Police, getting assistance with forensic analysis and consulting on investigative tactics. We have also enlisted the support of IST in trying to identify the source of the posters.

We are frustrated by Google and Facebook, who will not share information that may help identify the sender because of their privacy policies. Their servers containing the information we require are housed in the US so our courts have no jurisdiction to order them to assist.

In an effort to address safety concerns, beginning Monday, March 21 and until the end of term, the majority of campus parking lots will be open and free of charge for use in the evening from 6:30 pm on, enabling students to park close to their class or the library. Students are also encouraged to use the campus shuttles that operate between 7 pm and 2 am.

I encourage anyone with information that might assist us on this case to call UW Police at extension 22222, or to use the anonymous reporting module on the UW Police webpage or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)

The cops are really wasting their time investigating something that isn't a crime (except for the impersonation thing). Why don't they get busy with prosecuting perjury, public mischief and false accusations?

This sounds more like a political prosecution.

Who is creating the moral panic? It is very immoral to create such a panic when there were never any threats made or any implied danger.
