VP External: Aaaand We’re Back (Part 4)

Hey everyone! Back again for our last term as EngSoc exec. I’ve been keeping busy as your VP External. I’ll give you a quick update as to what I’ve been up to, and what’s coming.

Let’s start with conferences. Part of my portfolio is to attend various provincial and national engineering conferences throughout the year. Two of them happened in the winter term. The first was the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students (CFES) Congress. Seven other delegates and I headed to Calgary for this one, voting on various CFES issues on behalf of Waterloo. Some of the important things happening included the CFES fighting to get a vote on the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board, as well as mandating the CFES executives to look into ways to improve employment opportunities for engineering students. Secondly, the VP External of ASoc and I also brought 12 first years to the First Year Integration Conference at Ryerson University! It was a great leadership and professional development experience for all the delegates. On May 26th our delegation will be attending the Annual General Meeting of the Engineering Student Societies’ Council of Ontario, my last conference as VP Ex. Keep an eye out for future conference applications! They are an amazing experience.

In terms of the rest of my portfolio, things are running pretty similarly to fall term. Upcoming things include our involvement in Pride Parade on July 3rd (keep an eye out for signups) and the Waterloo Engineering Competition! WEC is happening May 28-29 and will be a fantastic competition. Students can compete in Junior Design, Senior Design, Consulting, or Programming. Check out the Facebook event! A new initiative that the education outreach directors are putting together is a design competition for grade school students in the area. It’s proving to be challenging to plan so the launch is planned for Winter 2017. Otherwise, check out the EngSoc calendar to see what’s going on.

Come by the EngSoc office to chat anytime! I’m pretty much always there.
