VP External: (Incoming Exec) New Team, New Ideas!

Note: This article is hosted here for archival purposes only. It does not necessarily represent the values of the Iron Warrior or Waterloo Engineering Society in the present day.

Why hello there engineering students! It’s me again, Leila, but this time I am very excited to be writing to you as the incoming Engineering Society President! The results are in and I am happy to announce the new team for Fall 2014 of myself as President, Heather Smith (VP External), Kevin McNamara (VP Finance), Josh Kalpin (VP Education), and Puneet Natt (VP Internal). With a new team comes new ideas and new motivation! Our team had our first vision meeting last week and the amount of improvements you will see in the fall is ridiculous! Some things coming down the pipeline are an EngSoc career fair (no, this time it will actually happen!), a student run first year conference, a new alumni networking social event, more involvement with the department to gather student feedback, programming competitions in WEC, more student deals, and so much more! The whole team is excited to start serving you, the students, and to try and make your time here at Waterloo the best it can be!

The second part of this article is about you! Yes you! The past few weeks I have had some amazing discussions with students about what they would like to see in the Engineering Society and what they don’t like about their undergraduate experience so far. These are the types of discussions that we need to start having and that will actually make changes. The exec can only guess so much what students want to see but we need you to tell us! Over coop and in the fall term we will be increasing the amount of student input and feedback we seek out substantially and we want you to be ready. What don’t you like about your educational experience? What about the student space? Comments on the level of activities offered? How about the culture of engineering? We want to hear what you think so we can better serve you! Look out for discussion groups, online polls, feedback boxes, and in person visits in the fall but if you want to chat, discuss, rant or anything else before then please e-mail me at lmeemacoleman@gmail.com to arrange something!
